For our 5 year-old daughter, my husband and I planned a Dr. Seuss "ball" for her birthday party theme. We had six poster signs set up in our backyard with pictures from Dr.
Seuss books and different activities labeled. Each party participant had a red and white striped gift bag to collect their goodies. The first thing we did was host a "Green Eggs and
Ham" egg hunt where the children found hidden plastic eggs with candy. We had a "One Fish, Two Fish" fishing pond off of our deck so the kids could fish for prizes (little kid
meal toys.) We also had a "Foot Book" area where the kids played the 'Duck, Duck Goose' game, only it was to the words "leg, leg, foot". We had a hopping
contest at the "Hop On Pop" station. We are also fortunate to have a nice gradual hill in our yard. We put a stuffed Grinch under a Grinch sign on
"Mt. Crumpit", and the kids had to take stuffed animals down the hill and put them in a basket for the "who's". The last game was a "Cat-in-the-Hat" cake
walk. We drew a striped circle with enough numbers for all the kids.
We played music and had our older daughter draw numbers, and each child got to pick his cupcake. They were directed to a spot on the deck with Grinch material for a table cloth, and we had ice cream and milk with the cake. At all the stations there were stickers to decorate the kids' bags, and prizes that went with the activity (rubber frogs for the hopping game.) There were NO losers to any activity. We think it truly was a "ball"!
