My family throws a huge themed party every summer. This year we are having a "movies" theme where everyone has to dress up as their favorite movie character. My girls are already fighting over who will be "Sandy" from "Grease"... end of the movie Sandy, of course.  We are sending out invitations that are made of foamed black and white director clappers. The guests will arrive to a red carpet and an "old time" movie theater sign over the front door. My mom always has a welcome bag for each family. This year it will be microwave popcorn and boxed candy held in movie theater popcorn holders with red tissue paper. We plan on having an "Oscars" award ceremony with prizes for best costume, hair, accessory, couple, etc, but not before they get past my mother who will be the judgemental Joan Rivers (if she can pull it off). We found great prizes at the Dollar Store: DVD's of old movies, popcorn bowls, microwave popcorn, boxes of candy, etc, but we also have video store certificates. This year we will play 1)'charades' (to movie titles and movie characters, 2)'guess the movie a famous movie quote is from', and 3)'guess the movie this song is from'. Our decorations include a long film reel made of black and white paper with our past party photos displayed down the middle. Table cloths will be black, white, and red with matching paper supplies. We also got free old movie posters from a local theater to hang in the room. There are lots of kids at these parties so we entertain them with a movie in the basement. Our free movie theater posters will be hung as well as a home made maroon velvet bar that is used at the theaters. We found authentic looking popcorn holders at Target (6 for $1.99!), we bought cola cola cups, and candy boxes that are typically found in a theater. The kids are going to make cement handprints made from pie plates and cement (as in Hollywood Blvd) so we can use them in my moms garden walkway later.  We also bought a star pinata from Target for $10. It's always a great time since everyone brings a dish and comes to party!
