My four year old loved playing a bride in a wedding so we gav her a "Getting Married Dress-Up Party." We had so much fun. THE INVITATIONS: We made miniature boquets out of the little
silk flowers used for various wedding crafts (75 cents each) and attached a little streamer with a pretty font that read "You're Invited to Mazie's Getting Married Dress-Up Party Date
Time Place." THE ACTIVITIES: As the girls arrived, I had them sign a "registry" with a huge feather pen I got on clearance at a Party Store. They loved using this fancy pen.
First, I let the girls dress up and put on clear make-up using make-up and costumes my daughter already had and the other girls brought. The "bridemaids" snacked on pink punch in
tea cups, heart shaped PB&J's and assorted pink candies as they dressed and primped in front of a full length mirror. I even dressed up in an old bridesmaid dress from the Goodwill and my
wedding veil. Then, each girl got a bouquet which I made by wrapping floral tape and ribbon around silk boquets from the dollar store. The parents sat in chairs and made an aisle. I dropped a
$1.49 carton of rose petals down the aisle and stood at one end. We played the "Here Comes the Bride" song as the girls slowly walked down the aisle. At the end, I asked them if
they would promise to always be sweet, listen to their parents, and be true to themselves. Each girl said, "I Do" and I gave them a plastic ring. The parents threw rice as the girls
walked back down the aisle to the "Wedding March" Song (I wrapped little scoops of rice into mesh circles from the dollar store and tied them with ribbon.)I turned on a bubble
machine and the girls were allowed to throw their boquets in the air. The rest of the time was spent redressing and marching down the aisle several more times. (With tears in our eyes, we
parents felt this was good practice for real weddings to come way, way down the line). THE CAKE: I made three circle cakes of different sizes and stacked them to make a three tiered wedding
cake complete with a child bride and groom on top. THE TAKE HOME GIFTS: I bought little white flower-girl baskets from the Goodwill ($1 each) and filled them with candy wrapped in the mesh
circles, a ring, a boquet, and other trinkets. My daughter still has everything from her party, including the registry with all her friends names, the bride and groom cake topper, boquet,
ring, and trinkets plus memories that will last her a lifetime.
