For my daughter's fourth birhtday party she wanted a dress-up,princess, star party.  So, we did it all.  I found cute crown and star invitations outlined in pink at a local stationary store and printed them myself.  I had the grandmothers and aunts scouting out their closets and thrift stores for dress-up clothes (boy and girl).  (Post Halloween costumes on sale are great too). We converted our garage into dress up land.  We hung a rope and hung the clothes on it like they were displayed at a store.  The hats were placed on a last minute made hat stand using 2 by 4 and nails. The dress-up shoes were placed on a shoe rack. I brought out two full length mirrors and found shiney star garland at a dollar store to drape around the mirrors.  I had my sister draw a castle scene on a five foot long sheet of white butcher paper and put out markers and crayons for guests to color in.  THis too, was framed with star garland while shiney silver stars hung from the ceiling with fishing line and the table topper was a pop-up star display. (All found at a dollar store) We borrowed picnic tables from the neigbors and had jewels and glue for the guests to decorate gold crowns (Wal-mart). We played "pass the slipper" like you would play "hot potato" and played "freeze", both to the Shrek CD. FOr a cake I made a white cake and decorated it with cookie stars and purple and pink edible glitter. The ice cream resembled a princess with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a face and a sugar cone for a hat. This had a strip of fruit roll -up sticking out to be the material coming out of her hat. It was decorated with mini m&m eyes and nose, twizler lips and chocolate icing piped out for hair.  I found pink plates, cups and napkins at a discount store that matched the invitations. We put out a star balloon on the mailbox.  The pinata was a star filled with star stickers, candy, glow in the dark stars and markers.  I found princess thank you notes to send later.  It was definetly a star performance!  Invitation read:  Come play dress-up games and more Claire is turning four and then the info!
