When my daughter turned 10, we decided to have an Egyptian party. It was so much fun.
We have a sunroom in our house and is perfect for parties. First of all, I covered one wall in bright shinny blue paper with gold trimming. A couple of friends helped me put together a mummy from scratch (I didn't want to spend $99.00 at the Party store) but I bought a carton coffin since it was easier to put away. I also bought rubber snakes and bettles and displaying in a way that it was coming out of the mummy's face and body. For the invitation, I went to Michael's and bought handmade paper with blues and gold colors and cut it in squares double matting them, to make it more interesting, I glued in the middle broken pieces of jewelry that I had. On the outside of the envelope I printed the person's name with Egytian fonts. I went to the library and got ideas from different Egyptian related books. I borrowed from the library some decorations that they used for the summer reading program. I hired a face painting artist to paint the children's faces, she did a beautiful job, she actually painted a butterfly on the girl's faces. I took a picture of every guest with their face painted and pasted on a blank card for thank you notes. I bought an Egyptian outfit for the birthday girl and a beaded crochet hat. For food, I used the basic hot dogs, chicken nuggets, chips, etc. but the fun part was adding Egyptian's name for example CleoKrysten's favorite hot dogs (my daughter's name is Krysten), King Tut's chicken nuggets, etc. I made 2 columns with purple and gold balloons for decorations. For the entertainment which it went perfect with the theme, I paired the guests and gave them a roll of toilet paper to wrap themselves into mummies. While they were doing that, I played the song "Walk like an Egytian". When the song ended, it was time to see which guests accomplished the most. Of course, I had a gift for everybody since they all participated and had so much fun.
