My six y/o wanted an "Ancient Egypt" theme party. Our local rubber stamp store came in handy -- they had some real papyrus, as well as some stamps featuring Tut's mask, a
hieroglypics set, etc.
We made the invitations on the papyrus and then rolled them into a scroll which we delivered in "coffins" made of cardboard spray painted gold. Games at the party included "Pin the pyramid on Egypt," and a "Memory" type game with Egyptian artifacts I found at the local art museum. They also made cartouche style nametags to wear at the party. Then I took them downstairs and read them a book called "Archaeologists Dig for Clues," after which I turned them loose with shovels and pails to go dig up a bunch of "artifacts" I had previously hidden in our extra-large sandbox (sandbox has lived through previous pirate parties and this year is an alien zone in a space party, lol. I had to settle for solid gold and lapis-colored tableware enlivened by an occasional rubber stamp. We had a great cake in the shape of Tut's mask to balance it off, though. Then the kids had fun making each other into mummies with rolls of toilet paper -- they stood very still and we had the parents pick out their little mummies -- that was fun. I found a die cut of a pyramid shape you can fold and sent the kids home with an Egyptian theme eraser and lots of candy inside the pyramids, which I decorated with random hieroglyph stamps and tied with a ribbon.
