A friend asked me to plan her son's 1st birthday party using an Elmo theme. I love to plan parties and it is so much fun when someone else is paying for it! Here son loves Elmo so we went with a theme of Levi's World. I found an adorable invitation on Ebay. It had Elmo in a birthday hat and along the left side was a film strip that featured Elmo at his piano, two places to put a picture of Levi and one that said Levi's World. The invitation is created for you then sent to your local Walgreens or other choice, then you print as many as you like on the glossy picture paper. They turned out great and made a great keepsake for friends and family! Since it was mostly small children 3 and under we geared the party towards them. For the decorations we covered the round tables in red tablecloths. We then cut a piece of white craft paper for each table. I used a crayon and made the swirly effect along the edges of each piece of white craft paper then placed them on the tables. We then placed a mirror with a fish bowl on top of it. We filled each fish bowl with blue rocks and placed a real Dorothy¯ goldfish in each bowl. We placed crayons and coloring pages on every table for the guests to color. For the coloring pages we copied pages from a coloring book but altered the wording to go with the party. For example, there was a page with Big Bird and Ernie. Above Ernie it said Have you heard the news?¯ and above Big Bird it said It's Levi's 1st Birthday Party! The kids and even the adults loved coloring on the craft paper and the coloring pages! Levi has a lot of Elmo dolls so we placed one on each table. There was also a piano in the room so we placed a large Elmo doll on the bench and put a Dorothy fish on top of it. We hung an Elmo birthday banner personalized with Levi's name on the wall and filled the room with red and white balloons and Elmo balloons. There was an Elmo balloon outside to greet the guest and an Elmo walker balloon just inside the door. The kids loved that one! Since Elmo's favorite food is pizza that is what we served. The plates and napkins were the Sesame Street 1st birthday ones. For drinks there was bottled pop and water. We sat the food and drinks up on a table at the back of the room. The tables were in an L shape and covered with red tablecloths as well. On one table was the pizza and the other one had the cake, cupcakes and pictures of the birthday boy. The pictures were in a black collage frame and were his 1st birthday pictures. There was also a scrapbook of his first year on the table. The guests enjoyed looking at all the pictures. Since I have a bakery I made Levi his own cake using the Elmo head shape pan I have. I covered his nose, mouth and eyes using fondant. For his fur I used red icing and piped stars to cover the cake. Guests thought it was too cute to just let him dive into! I made cupcakes for the guests using Elmo cupcake liners. Each cupcake was covered in swirled white frosting with colorful small round sprinkles. I then piped a blue swirling effect around the edges (just like on the tables). I placed a premade Elmo head made of sugar on ½ of the cupcakes and an edible sugar crayon in different colors on the other ½. They were so colorful and fun! To make the party more festive we purchased a CD of Elmo singing songs that was personalized with Levi's name. For party favors we personalized a red tin bucket with each child's name. We filled the buckets with a Sesame Street juice, goldfish crackers, an Elmo drawing pad, crayons, a rubber ducky, bubbles, an Elmo bouncy ball, two Sesame Street finger pals and an Elmo zipper pull. During the party I went around and put Elmo tattoos on the kids. At the end of the party the kids got to take home a Dorothy fish of their own as long as it was ok with their parents. The party was so much fun for the kids and really geared towards them.
