Sesame street 3rd birthday party, May'2006
We had a sesame street birthday party for our son who was turning 3, as it was summer, we decided to have it outside in our local park, my son use to love that park and he wanted sesame street theme as he loves the whole gang of sesame street characters with Elmo and cookie monster being his favorites. For the invitations, we sent them out online through evite. Com. I downloaded a picture of sesame street gang from the Internet and designed the evite. It read, Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away, on our way to Aryan's B'day !! Fun, games, prizes & a whole lot of treats, It all takes place at sesame street !!! This party has been brought to u by the letter "A" and the number "3". The park had pavilions at the end, which gave us a little privacy. There were abt 10 picnic tables, thank God the weather held up. We decorated the place with colorful streamers in primary colors of red yellow and blue, and the tables with the table cloths in primary colors, I picked up these from a local dollar store, they were great and made the theme really going. For the birthday cake, I ordered a strawberry filled cake (as my son loves strawberries) from the local bakery with elmo n big bird on it. It was very good. Kids loved it. We took a small portable CD player with us, and I picked up a couple of sesame street cd's from the library, the songs were great, with the title song, sunny days to "C" is for cookie monster to Oscar loves trash. The CD was playing in the background while the cake cutting was going on. After all the kids had their cake they all started to dance on those tunes which was good to set the mood of the party. I got the sesame street plates, napkins and cutlery from the local dollar store and as our party was in the afternoon, we ordered pizzas (elmo's fav. Food). Games: How many cookies in the jar? I made a cut out of cookie monster out of blue construction paper and pasted it to the cookie jar. it looked as if cookie monster is popping out of the jar and baked some chocolate chip cookies and kept them in the jar. We placed that jar on the table and kept some post its along side it, when people came in, we just asked them to write down how many cookies they think are in the jar, with their name on it. kids as well as adults participated in this game and there were 2 prizes, one for kids and 1 for parents. Toss the trash for Oscar: I got a inexpensive trash can and covered it with aluminium foil and gave it a rugged look just as Oscar's trash can by smudging some black paint. the trash was old newspapers crumbled into small balls. so that kids can throw them. Oscar loves trash was playing in the background during this game. Nobody lost in this game, everybody who participated got small green play dough jars (green is for oscar) Ernie's rubber duckie game: I got some rubber duckies from a local store and arranged them in rows n columns on a table and made some rings out of the aluminium foil . every child gets 3 chances to throw them on the rubber dukies, so that the ring falls on the duckie, if it falls on the ducky, they get that ducky, the kids loved this game. Goodie bags: I had kids ranging from 6yrs to 7 months.so, I got the paper gift bags in all the primary colors from Michaels and got some sesame street wrapping paper from the dollar store. I then cut small squares of this wrapping paper and pasted it on one side of the gift bag. It looked as if they were custom made.for the goodies, I got some some sesame street beach balls, again from the dollar store, crayons (in honor of elmo) and I got some real good coloring books with the title happy birthday elmo with coloring pages of all the sesame street characters symbolizing birthdays, again from the dollar store. I got some sesame street stickers and put them on small whistles in primary colors again fr dollar store and the magnetic alphabets fr dollar store again, and for small kids, I got sippy cups with sesame street characters fr. Burling baby depot and sesame street bath time book. And lastly my husband printed out each child's name in the form of the sesame street sign in the crayon font , punched a hole at the top, and tied it with ribbons in primary colors to the handle of each goodie bag, it was a personal touch so that each child feels special. We had a great party where my son had a memorable time with all his friends, they danced, sang and enjoyed it to the fullest, and finally we sent out thank u notes, again in the crayon font as a email from my son to everybody, it was a huge hit. Hope this helps anyone who's planning a sesame street party!!
