My son (Justus)is turning One on Novemebr 20th and his party is a compilation of ideas from this website. He really loves Sesame Street (Elmo is his fav. character) so I decided to create
Sesame Street. I used a publishing program to make the decorations with the poem (borrowed but improvised) from another party suggestion. It was very colorfull and the balloons were clipart
with my son's picture on them. We have 12 guests 4yrs and under and about 8 bigger kids so the party will only be from 2pm-4pm. No lunch, just snacks, cake and ice cream. Our townhome complex
has a party room that's not too large so the party will still seem intimate. I must add that I spent hours and hours for this party. The decorations were handmade. I took three main
characters of Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster to focus the party on. There is a corner of the room dedicated to each character. When the guests walk up there are posters of Sesame Street
characters holding arrows pointing to the party room (made on the computer). I bought almost every style of Sesame Street balloon I could find so there will be balloons with the signs. (Start
looking for your balloons early as Sesame Street is not that popular in the party stores...except for Elmo. You can find all of the characters online at various party sites but I didn't want
to pay the shipping). When the guests come in I made a huge (made out of large roll green butcher paper taped together) backdrop that says "Sesame Street was brought to you today by the
Letter J and the Number 1. I stuck pictures of Sesame Street characters on it (downloaded pics from the Net). Each child will take a Polaroid picture in front of the backdrop with my son and
it will be included in the party favor. FOr the favors, I made coloring books (12 pages long) of Sesame Street characters. The cover of the coloring book has Big Bird, Elmo, And Cookie
Monster with the words "Elmo, Cookie M, And Big Bird love you. Justus (my son's name) loves you most of all!" The first page inside the book has a line that reads "This
coloring book belongs to...." and there is a place in the middle of the page for me to stick the Polaroid pic. At the bottom it says" Sunny Days may keep the clouds away, But good
friends like you are here to stay. I enjoyed the games we played and the cake we ate, And I'll never forget how you helped me celebrate! Keep this photo of me and you, And you'll rememebr the
good times to!" Each coloring book is covered with those report covers that youuse in school to help preserve them. The first corner is Elmo's World and I made footprints out of red
cardstock to follow. In this corner I bought a huge balloon of Elmo surrounded by 5 red latex balloons ina bouquet. I made a huge banner of red butcher paper that says Elmo's World. I stuck a
picute of a cartoon "Earth", Dorothy in her bowl, and Elmo on the banner. Next to the banner I made a huge fisbowl out of buthcer paper. (Use white for background and blue for the
water. I even used real sandbox sand at the bottom and a popsicle stick with a cake on it for the "this is what Dorothy's thinking about today). In the middle is a foam cut-out of
Dorothy. On the table there are foam cut-outs with the name of each child guest on them. The kids have to find their name and stick it inthe fishbowl with Dorothy. Everyone wins this game!
(buy colored foam sheets with adhesive backing from your local crafts store) The table is of course red tablecloth and in the middle is a goldfish (only 10 cents at our pet sore)in a bowl. We
are going to place the tv on a stand and I found the Elmo's world VHS at Toys R Us where Elmo talks about Birthdays. (Too bad it wasn't on DVD). Then you follow the yellow cutouts a huge
yellow banner that reads "Big Bird's Backyard". Of course I bought the huge (41 inch) Big Bird balloon surrounded by 5 yellow latex balloons. A friend of mine made a huge cutout of
a tree and of course a drawing of a nest. I bought my son the Playhut Megaland Crawl Thru Tunnel and Ball Pit. This represents Big Bird's "nest" and the kids can crawl through it
and play. (He already loves this play structure). After following the blue footprints to Cookie Monster's Corner they are greeted by the big Cookie Mosnter mylar Balloon and Bouquet. In this
corner, on the blue tablecloth are plain sugar cookies (in circles, I couldn't find cookie cutters to make the 1 and the J.) Using popsicle stickes, each kid can decorate 2 cookies and take
them home wrapped in blue Saran Wrap. (the big kids will even enjoy this). For the snack and cake tables, I went crazy with the Sesame Street tablecolths and plates. They even have plates of
Big Bird's face and napkins of Cookie Monster. I have goldfish crackers and different colored punch, small hotdogs with barbecue sauce, salami and cream cheese...just finger foods. The cake
comes from our grocery store bakery and is decorated with Cookie, Bird, and Elmo. My son has his own personal 8inch cake to play in and I bought a Sesame Street candle for that cake. The room
is filled with primary color balloons and the other five mylar baloons of Sesame Street characters. There is a 3 person jumper (bought ofhome shopping channel and can be used for years)that
the big kids will play in outside. I bought the Sesame Street pull-string pinata(was very hard to find) to do at the very end. The favors are the coloring books with the polaroid pic, and
each child gets one of the goldfish to represent Dorothy. It took a month and a half to make all the decorations and get it together but we are soooo excited!!!! And I admit that my son will
not remember it but it makes for a great scrapbook memory!
