My son's first birthday party was this past Saturday. He loves Elmo and so I decided to have Elmo as the party theme. For the invitations I used half a sheet of hard stock
paper and folded "doors" on them. So then you opened the doors and in the center part it read: Sunny days, chasing the clouds away On my way to Alexander's birthday
party Can you tell me how to get, how to get to I PUT MY ADDRESS HERE Alexander is Turing one Won't you join us for some fun? Elmo is ready to celebrate Are you ready for some cake?
January 22nd is the date At 4 o'clock so don't be late.
Then below I put "Brought to you by the letter S" which is the first letter of our last name. The print had a red border around it and balloons as well as an Elmo hanging on one of the corners holding a birthday cake and wearing a party hat. Across the top it had and three little faces of Elmo with A, B, and C in between each face. I was tired of seeing those plastic party bags and so I decided to come up with something different. I had been saving his formula cans and created Elmo banks using the cans. On the lid I cut out a small rectangle to serve as the opening for inserting money. I covered the can in red fabric and put Elmo's feet at the bottom. I then made an Elmo face on the lid. To do this I covered the lid in the same red fabric and used the opening as his mouth. I then put black fabric over his mouth (I made a hole on the black fabric as well). So he had his classic open mouth. To make the eyes and his nose I used those medium sized Styrofoam balls and cut them in half. I covered one half in orange to use as his nose and then took two other halves and used them as his eyes. I used the same black fabric to cut little circles and glued them on the Styrofoam to serve as "pupils". Then I filled the can with candy, bubbles, a rubber ducky and a little box of crayons. The crayons were because I created an Elmo coloring book using images I found online. I made the pictures big enough to cover a full 8 1/2 by 11 sheet and then punched holes on top and tied them with red ribbon. The party was at my house and so I decorated everything in Elmo. I had streamers in red, blue and yellow going from one corner to the other with a center point where I tied balloons together and hung them. For one of the tables I made an Elmo carousel using six Elmo's that I made out of red foam. On the other table the centerpiece was my son's Chicken Dance Elmo. I put balloons under him and had him hold balloons. I couldn't find a bakery that made Elmo cakes so I just got a 16-inch white one with red borders. Then I also got a round one, which was decorated with primary color balloons. I put the round cake on top of the other one using the cake holder and pillars. On top I put the Elmo candle and on the bottom I used the Sesame Street figurines. We played "Pin the nose on Elmo". Of course I had to make the Elmo myself and we watched "The Best Of Elmo". The party was a success and I could tell my son had a lot of fun. There were about forty guests including about 12 kids. They all loved the Elmo cans.
