Elmo's World Theme

Honorable Mention

Nov 2002

My son loves Elmo so for his 2nd birthday I did an Elmo's World theme. I ordered almost all of the party supplies online. The invitations were cute. On the front it had the number two and Elmo holding balloons and it said "Join The Fun!" and when you opened it, it said "Someone special is turning 2".  I had Elmo plates, napkins, and cups for the kids and plain red, blue and yellow plates, napkins and cups for the parents.  I had an Elmo tablecloth on the cake and gift table and plain red, blue, and yellow tablecloths on the other tables. I had streamers running down the middle of these tables with an Elmo mylar balloon in the center.  I bought a helium tank and filled all the balloons myself.  I put an Elmo honeycomb centerpiece on one end of the cake table with an Elmo pull string piņata on the other end.  Since the ceiling in the hall was too high, I used the piņata for a decoration instead of a game. Behind the cake table on the wall hung a Happy 2nd Birthday banner which I found at a local party store.  Then I also had an Elmo honeycomb centerpiece on the gift table.  Behind that on the wall I hung the Elmo's World banner and wall decor. I also made a 22" drawing of Elmo out of posterboard and hung it on the wall by the gift table.  (Which is now hung in my son's room.) And I blew up a bunch of red, yellow and blue balloons and scattered them all over the floor. As the guests arrived they played the game of who knows Elmo best, both kids and adults played this.  I found an Elmo quiz online and retyped it with my own personal touch. The winner won $5.00.  It had multiple choice questions like, how old is Elmo? When is Elmo's birthday?  What is Elmo's favorite food?  What is Elmo's pet goldfish name? It was a lot of fun.  After the game we sang Happy Birthday and ate cake and ice cream. The cake was adorable!!  I special ordered it through Wal-Mart and was very pleased with the way it turned out. It had Big Bird in a tow truck towing Elmo in a car.  It said "Happy Birthday Jacob" on the top and on the sides in red, blue and yellow icing it had A B C and 1 2 3. After the cake, Jacob opened his presents and I handed out the Elmo treat bags.  Inside of each one I had a fun pad, a little maze toy, a twisty fun straw, and a party blowout. Along with the treat bags the kids also got a balloon. And before the guests left I had them sign a Happy Birthday poster with their own special message to the birthday boy.   I think the party lasted about an hour.  Everyone had fun, the birthday boy especially.  The room was decorated very cute and the hard work was worth it. I can't wait until his birthday next year!!
