SESAME STREET THEME PARTY
My son just celebrated his first birthday yesterday, and it was a huge success!!! My husband and I started decorating at 9:00AM. At first , I was a little overwhelmed with the size of the room, and was scared that we wouldn't finish on time or that are decorations would be too little. I made all the decorations- it took me 3 weeks to do it. I am a graphic designer, so I gave myself the challenge of doing everything to make the party even more special. I wanted to have a lot of crept papers, balloons and sesame street mobiles to add more color and excitement to the place. We had 55 balloons all around the room. At the entrance we had about 25 balloons with curled colorful ribbons welcoming everyone coming in. Outside was a big sesame banner with Jaime's name with it, and a standee of Ernie and Zoei. We also had so much colorful crept paper at every post and corner. I made little Sesame faces and stuck them all over the walls. (resembling wall-paper stick-ons) The kids loved it, they were removing them most of the time and were identifying the characters. Then we had 14 hanging mobiles of balloons with Sesame characters hanging from it. The biggest mobile I made was by the stairs it was of Jaime pushing the wagon with Elmo and Zoei inside and all the characters hanging from it. My husband and I also pumped about 3 packs of balloons and lined the banisters with it. The two sesame street piņatas (big bird and Elmo) were hanging from the ceiling and they also added a lot of color contrast around the room. We had about 45 guests, we had about 9 children. The program started off with a huge puppet show. I was happy to see that the stage was so huge and the puppets were about the size of the kids. The kids and the adults enjoyed the performance....I guess they reminisced their sesame street past. Then after we were through with the puppet show, The Elmo mascot came out for pictures. At first some of the kids were scared, but a few minutes later everyone was playing with Elmo. Some of the kids were even hugging and kissing him, I couldn't believe Elmo was a hit! He made another appearance after we ate. Then he did the two piņatas. The first was for the kids and since the pinatas were full, it took forever for the 9 kids to pick up all the candies and goodies inside. So, we decided for the second pinata, it would be adults and kids together. That was fun to watch all the adults scrambling to get all the goodies on the floor. Even my mother, mother-in-law, my sisters and brothers and friends (all over 30, mind you) participated. Then everyone sang Happy Birthday and the cake was brought to the center. It was so beautiful! It was a big wagon with Jaime and Elmo inside along with a lot of toys inside it. Around the cake were little Sesame Street cupcakes. The person who made the cake was so inspired. She said she got her idea from the invitation I designed. The invites had Elmo and my son in front they were both sitting inside a wagon and their picture swayed back and forth. Behind the invitation was a picture of Jaime with all the characters of Sesame Street with all the information pertaining to the party. The guests really had fun, they kept raving about the decorations and couldn't believe we made it, they all loved the party and entertainment. We are going to send all the children pictures with Elmo with a Thank you note included. The food was great too: Pancake House catered so we had pancakes, tacos, sandwiches and spaghetti. I am sure with all the videos and pictures we took, my son will never forget how truly loved and special he is!
