Kids Birthday
Party Supplies

My son requested an Elmo's World themed party for his third birthday.  I made his birthday invitations to look like a window with a window shade. Written on the window shade was, "You are invited to Elmo's World."  The inside stated, "Guess what Elmo is thinking about today ... A birthday party!  And he wants you to join him in celebrating _______'s third  birthday!"  The party details followed. I decorated with Elmo's World themed party items, balloons, streamers, etc. The kids' table was covered with a plain white paper tablecloth and crayons so they could decorate it while waiting for everyone to arrive.  After everyone arrived, we played pin-the-nose on Elmo.  Then we played "Fill Dorothy's new fish bowl." I divided the kids in two groups and lined them up at one end of the room with an empty fish bowl between the two groups. On the other end of the room was a baby bath tub filled with water. Each child was given a small Dixie cup. One at a time, one child from each team would run to the tub, fill their cup, run back to the bowl and empty the water into the bowl. This continued until the bowl was filled to the brim.  An adult had been designated to count how many times each team had run through. The team that ran the most won. I also made a drawing of Mr. Noodle's head and cut out a variety of different eyes, noses, mouths, hairstyles and hats. The kids each took turns selecting the different parts to make funny faces. I made copies of the head and parts and put them in envelopes, so each child could take a set to play with at home. Then, they each made their own fish bowl candles.  I bought little fish bowls, colored aquarium stones, little seashells, rocks, and plastic plants and let them decorate their "fishbowls." Then I inserted a wick and poured gel wax into the bowls. When the wax had cooled, but had not totally set, I placed a plastic fish into the wax. I served homemade pizzas and pasta for lunch.  My son was particularly interested in having an Elmo cake, but knowing the way red icing tastes and stains, I didn't want to use Wilton's Elmo cake pan.  Still wanting his cake to be special and not just the ordinary rectangle layer cake,  I made a three-tiered cake frosted with white icing. I decorated it with red, blue, and yellow squiggled lines(like those seen on Elmo's world).  I topped it with an Elmo candle and three crayon candles(red, blue, and yellow, as well).  For party favors, each child received a "present" of their own to unwrap while my son unwrapped his gifts -- a plastic stackable Elmo puzzle, I fortunately found at a discounted price.
