For my son's second birthday we decided to have an Elmo party. For invitations we stamped colorful crayons on the background and made elmo out of a flower stamp. Elmo held a card that read
Elmo has a question FOOOORRRRR You!" On the inside the card read "Guess what Elmo is thinking about today? A Birthday! ________ is turning 2!" We included all the party
information including the RSVP. For decorations we used primary color curling ribbon and hung it from the ceiling. I cut out an enormous Elmo for the front door and gave him a thought bubble
that said "It's a Birthday Party! You know a Birthday!" I cut out giant ABC's from cardstock and decorated the walls with them. In the kitchen there was a giant Cookie Monster with
another thought bubble that said "J is for J______!" In the main party area I cut out an Oscar the Grouch and made him a cardboard trashcan. The kids loved climbing in and out of
the trashcan. We always do crafts at my kids parties and so when the guests arrived I had printed out placemats with Cookie Monster for them to color. I got some self stick laminating sheets
(no machine required) and as the kids finished coloring we laminated their placemats to use later. Then they moved on to Slimey the Worm sock puppets. I purchased orange socks some yellow 1
inch ribbon and black 1/2 inch pompoms. The kids (with parents help) glued the ribbons around the socks to stripe it like Slimey and then glued the pompoms for eyes (a safe alternative to
googlie eyes). While our sock puppets dried we went into the party room to play games. I printed out a poster of elmo and cut out orange felt noses. I ran the noses through the Xyron so they
would stick. Since the guests were all two we didn't blindfold them. They had fun sticking the noses all over elmo and then pulling them off again. Next we played Journey to Ernie. I brought
out all kinds of red toys and put Ernie stickers on them. I showed the kids one red toy and the Ernie sticker on it and told them to find more red things in the room with Ernie hiding on
them. The kids did really well and had a lot of fun finding Ernie. Once they found all of the Ernies they each got a squeaky rubber ducky. For our last "game" we put on some sesame
street tunes and let the kids dance around the party area squeaking their duckys while their parents tried to tickle them. After games we sat down for Elmo's favorite food: mini cheesy pizzas
(english muffins with sauce and cheese). Each child had a half a banana on a lollipop stick juice boxes and goldfish crackers (which I placed in a fishbowl at the center of the table). After
they finished their pizzas they each got a letter of the day oatmeal cookie. I frosted the letter J on the tops of all the cookies before hand. They were a big hit. After my son opened his
gifts we played Oscar's trash toss. I told the kids it was time to "Feed" Oscar and showed them how to take a piece of trash and toss it in the cardboard trashcan I had made. The
kids went nuts grabbing trash and feeding Oscar. When we ran out of trash they went around begging for something else to feed him. Finally we came back to the table for cake and Ice cream.
After cake I distributed the goodie bags. I had cut out white circle eyeballs and and orange oval noses and glued them to the front of plain red gift sacks. Inside we made 1/4 page size
coloring books with coloring pages I printed off the internet elmo stickers crayons bubbles and the rubber duckies. "
