My daughter had a "Fairies of Neverland" party for her 4th birthday.
The invitation read "Come to where the fairies roam, Neverland they call their home. We'll jump, ride and play to celebrate Abby's birthday." On the inside it listed the activities we will do, "Dress to impress- perhaps your fairy best dress." (Boys said "Maybe if we give a cheer, Peter Pan will appear, or Captain Hook or the pirate Smee- come dressed up for all to see"). "At the party you will see the enchantments of a fairy... In the beginning if you believe, your fairy wings (boys "crown of leaves") you will receive. Next, prepare yourself to jump in Tigerlilly's Tee Pee (Tee Pee moonwalk) and take a ride on a horse that's a magical fairy (ponys decorated with ribbon in their mane to give rides). Take a chance on a pinata crocodile and win your share of the loot pile. Then to end the fun, we'll decorate cookie wands for everyone (star shaped cookies on sticks). And sleepily we'll send you home, having played among the fairy-gnombs." The invitation also included a fairy tatoo for the guest to wear to the party and some fairy stickers. In addition to the activities listed in the invatation, I made crafts for the children to make and had a treasure hunt. The crafts were pirates hats made from fun foam. I cut the hat shapes and attatched velcro to fasten them and then the kids put a skull and cross bones on and decorated them with jewels and gold ribbon. We also made clothespin fairies. They had flower petals for skirts and felt shirts and wings. We added curly doll hair and I had the eyes, mouth and pink cheeks pre-painted on the clothespins. The treasure hunt consisted of Peter Pan Wendy's toys that I collected as well as little fairy coloring books. I hid the toys in the living room under cushions and marked all the loot with an X- to make sure what they found was intended to be treasure! It was a fantastic party. It will be hard to top. I love it especially because it included both boys and girls and everyone had a marvelous time. I made each little girl fairy wings out of 15 gauge wire, tule and flowers. I also made each little girl a flower crown accented with ribbon (the kind you find at a Renissance festival). When the guests arrived at the party, the "fairy Godmother" would greet them and ask them if they believe in fairies. If they did, they received their fairy "gear". If the guest was a boy, they received a crown made of leaves and a vest cut out of green burlap to instantly transform them into Peter Pan. We decorated the house with extra tule hanging from the ceiling (on which we hung the fairy wings until the guests arrived). The festivities took place in the back yard where we had pony rides, a tee pee moonwalk jumper (Tiger Lilly's Tee Pee) and a crocodile pinata (filled with pirate loot- chocolate gold coins, periscopes, and pirate figures- fairy treats like glitter, body jewelry and a few toy clocks :) ). Inside I had my fairy helpers (the adults throwing the party were also dressed as fairies) hide "treasure" in the living room while the kids played outside. The kids came in and hunted for treasure like Peter Pan kid's meal toys from Wendy's (the live action Peter Pan) as well as the Disney Peter Pan Happy Meal toys I got from Ebay. The kids also found tattos, mini fairy activity/coloring books, pom-pom bracelets and fairy and mermaid pens. I also had 2 craft activities available for them to do as they wish (with "fairy helpers" to assist). We made pirate hats out of fun foam. I cut out the shapes and used velcro to make them adjustable. The kids decorated them with sticky skull and cross bones cut from fun foam, jewels and gold ribbon. They also made fairy clothespin dolls. I pre-painted eyes, mouth and rosy cheeks on the pins and the kids glued flower petal skirts, felt wings and tops, and curly doll hair. They were so cute! We then decorated cookie wands (star shape cookies with sticks in them) and had ice cream. The party took a great deal of work, but I enjoy doing it. It can be done with much less, but the idea lends itself to so much! It tured out to be a wonderful party for both boys and girls. Thank you for all of the ideas, I got many from this site!!
