Fairy Birthday Party For my daughters 5th birhtday we had a fairy forest theme. We sent out flower shaped invitations that all the petals folded down into a circle so when you opened it was like a blooming flower. Inside it said, "Come to where the fairies roam, a beautiful forest the call their home , We will all dance and play, to celebrate ashley's birthday." We needed to create a forest in our house because it was January and too cold to have outside. So we borrowed fake christmas trees, ficus trees or fake ivy vines, from all of our neighbors and family. Then we decorated the trees with sparkly tinsle, beeds, and hundreds of fake flowers,(donated from family as well), and white lights. We draped flowers and tuille around banisters and over windows.  Then we glittered EVERYTHING.  My friend went to a fairy website and downloaded pictures of flower fairies that we hid among the trees. The house really looked like a forest. The decorations were almost free after all the donations.  We made pink fairy wings out of dyed nylons and hangers and decorated them with glitter, we made flower wreathes for their hair, and skirts with tuille gathered around an elastic waist band.  Then we hung them in trees, so there was a wing tree, a wreath and skirt tree.  Their wands were made of wooden dowels with stirofoam balls on top covered in glitter and jewels.  My two sisters and I dressed up as fairies too. When the children arrived they decorated long skinny bags with stickers and glitter. When everyone came we started the fairy trials.  My sister and I led them in games to earn their fairy accesories.  They played freeze dance to The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and froze in fairy poses to win their wings, ring toss for the wreaths and skirts. While we were doing that my sister hid their wands in their bags, then we had each child come up and sprinkle fairy dust(glitter) over their bag and their wand appeared.  After the fairy trials there was a loud noise at the door and an evil cackle (my husband).  We opened the door to find a note from Maleficent the evil fairy who was angry at not being invited to the party. She had hidden all the party favors and only true magic fairies could solve her clues to find them.  So we went on a scavenger hunt for all the prizes, which were fairy themed, like fairy stickers, little bottles of fairy dust, butterfly clips ect. After all the fun activities we had a cute fairy birthday cake with toothfairy barbie on a flowery hill. The girls had so much fun, we left the fairy forest up for a week so the kids could still enjoy it. Or because I was too tired to take it down.
