Party Supplies

For my daughter's 6th birthday we chose the fairy partyware from Birthday Express. We asked all of the guests to dress-up in leotards and tu-tus. When they arrived at the party we gave them fairy wings and flower halos.  I decorated the fence around our backyard with white Christmas lights and fairies made out of cardboard. The entrance to the yard had a garden archway covered with white lights, tulle, and silk rose garland.  The party began with a scavenger hunt searching for fairies. The first set of clues took us to a small hat box filled with Barbie doll size fairy wings (made out of iridescent wrapping or tissue paper). The second set of clues took us to our neighbor's playhouse. We put a sign on the playhouse that read "Tooth Fairy Hide Out" and placed another one of my cardboard fairies at the door. Inside the playhouse was a doll bed filled with stuffed fairy dolls(made by grandma)and the birthday girl's present, a porcelain fairy doll.  The third set of clues took us to Fairy Land. This was an area (on the side of our house)that had another decorated garden archway leading into shrubs covered with tiny drawstring purses containing the new gold dollars. The guests really believed the tooth fairy had left each of them a small purse with a gold coin.  My neighbor wore her teenager's ballet costume and a set of wings and sat on a small bench pretending to be a fairy.  This would have been better for the birthday girl if I could have hired a stranger.  I also made fairy furniture out of sticks and wire decorated with dried flowers and placed it under the shrubs.  This wasn't as difficult as it sounds.  I stuck to the basics, a bed, table, chair and a couch. We returned to our backyard and made a flower fairy doll craft from Oriental Trading. When we sat down to eat I placed paper umbrellas in everyone's cups and told them it was a fairy's umbrella.  The children loved the scavenger hunt and were thrilled that we had found "real" fairy wings, furniture, and purses.  The stuffed fairy dolls were an added bonus. Everyone is still talking about this party, I think I'll have a hard time topping this one.
