FARM PARTY - 4 year old My son loves the farm so he chose that for the theme of his 4th birthday party.
I color copied a picture of him on the tractor and glued it to cardstock the same shade of green as the John Deere tractor. Guests were encouraged to dress appropriately for the farm (even though we were not leaving the house) When guests arrived they played with the same color green playdough. (I had made extra to put in their goody bags to take home) I had tractors and combines and other toy farm equipment for them to play with. We had put down a large piece of plastic and had several varities of grain for them to haul around and "seed" with. The kids loved this and though it made a mess, my son enjoyed vacuuming up his crop later. We played "Pin the Farmer on the Tractor", "Truck, Truck, Tractor" and "Toss the Animals in the Barn" and "How Many Farmers Can Fit in the Pick-up" (a small black pick-up truck that they crawled into and onto for a ride around the basement) I had a friend face paint tractors on their cheeks and took a picture of my son with each guest in front of the Pin the Farmer on the Tractor picture. The photos were later sent as thank yous to the guests. Decorations were mainly all the farm equipment and green and yellow balloons. Some posters and calendars were free from the local farm equipment dealership. They also gave me bags with the John Deere logo for goody bags. We had "dinner on the field" - I had packed a cooler and we spread out a blanket and had juice boxes and an assortment of snacks. The cake was in the shape of my son's initials with chocolate icing and "dirt" (chocolate cookie crumbs) and a wheat crop (coconut with yellow coloring) and a small tractor and plough in the field. This party was probably more of a success because we live in a city and many of the kids were not familiar with the farm, so it was something unique for them.
