I decided to give my son a farm theme birthday party for his 1st birthday. Though we don't live on a farm now, my husband and I both grew up on a farm and our son is getting his share of
tractors, and farm items already. Also, his gift was going to be a radio flyer wagon with wooden sides, and a Fisher Price® Little People Farm so it all fit well. I set up a food
tent outside with a table for serving. I served sloppy Joe's, chips, baked beans, pigs-in-a-blanket, and cake. I bought a red and white checked tablecloth and used bandanas as accents.
I ordered some cute farm theme items for prizes and gifts from Oriental trading. Each child got a plush farm animal puppet, and a blow-up farm animal (beach ball like). Plus some farm animal
stickers and a bandana to wear at the party. I set some hay bales in the yard for sitting along with some quilts.
We had about 10 kids ranging from 1 to 5 years old, so I planned a few games even though my son was too little to remember or play. For one game, I used the blow-up animals to play a relay. Each child had to run the animal down a course and drop it in a "pen" then return for another. The first to pen in all his animals won. Also, we hooked up a trailer to our lawn tractor and gave a small hayride for entertainment. We wheeled out his gifts in his new wagon and encouraged party-goers to wear overalls to add to the fun.
