For our daughter's 5th birthday, she wanted a "Farm" theme. We had various farm-themed activities and games: The kids planted seeds in styrofoam cups and made scarecrows to put
in the cups.
I pre-filled the cups with dirt so all they really did was poke the seeds down into the dirt a little way. The scarecrows were made out of craft sticks (or popsicle sticks). I pre-cut some hats and shirts out of felt and they used glue sticks to glue the clothes to the sticks. They used markers to draw faces on the scarecrows. It was a nice keepsake to bring home. Kids love to watch plants grow! We also had a beanbag toss. I bought a large piece of foam-type poster board and drew a farmer on it. (Don't worry about your artistic abilities- the kids couldn't care less.) I then cut out the area of the farmer's face with an exacto-knife and the kids tossed farm animal Beanie babies through the hole. We just did it for fun- no winners or losers. After the game, I had each party guest stand behind the poster and stick their face through the hole so that they looked like a farmer and I took their photo. When we sent thank-yours, each child got their picture sent to them also. Another fun keepsake. We also hid farm animals around the house and had them go on a scavenger hunt. Duck, Duck, Goose also was a game that fit the theme. The other party favors besides the plant, photo, and farm animals they found on the scavenger hunt were a few candies and a bandana. It was a lot of fun and the kids loved how the theme followed throughout the party!
