I wanted to do something different for my son's 5th birthday party. He absolutely loves to watch Fear Factor, so I thought why not try something like that.
I started researching on the net and found a few good ideas and then incorporated them into my own version. I started out by making my own invitations with Microsoft Publisher and some white card stock. I had my son to help me pick out some graphics of bugs, gross looking food, and toxic waste. They were printed like a post card and said the following If fear is not a factor for you, then put your fears to the test and see if you come out the best. Be ready for the challenge on Saturday, May 27th at 6pm at Brayden's house. RSVP @ ###-#### if you dare. I also included a note to the parents: Please dress your child in play clothes because they will get dirty & let me know if your child has any food or insect allergies. I set up a 10 x 20 tent in the back yard to give the kids a shaded place to do the stunts. I set up 2 tables. I covered them with birthday tablecloths. One was for the stunts and one was for the food. I ordered some bracelets from eBay (http://stores.ebay.com/Gordon-Toy-Company-and-Party-Store) so that I could divide the kids into teams (the fair way). We had 16 kids to show up so we divided them into 3 teams (2 teams had 5 each and 1 team had 6 each). I had kids that were 3-12. I had them reach into a box and pull a bracelet out to determine which team they would be on. The kids loved the bracelets. I only had one little boy to cry because he pulled out a PINK bracelet :0). We switched it to a yellow one and he was fine. I had 3 parents to volunteer to be the team calculator to keep up with their teams points; the team with the most points got a special prize (whoopee cushions). I had goodie bags filled with bug suckers; bug candy dispensers, bouncy balls, and tootsie rolls for all of the kids. I decided to do the eating stunt first. We had baked cow eyeballs, which were meatballs with a small hole poked in them filled with sour cream and topped with a green olive slice (complete with pimento). I made sure they had a good bit of sauce on them to look like blood. We had dirty worms, which were gummy worms coated with honey and then rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs (I put them in the blender and poured them in a bowl to coat the worms extremely messy). Last but not least we had brains. To make the brains I bought a brain mold from eBay (http://stores.ebay.com/Candy-Mold-Central) and lined it with a good bit of white chocolate that had been tinted pink with red food coloring, then added the filling (cocoa puffs, marshmallows, and butter kind of like rice crispy treats) and then finished it off with some more of the pink chocolate. The brain mold was great. It takes a little while for the chocolate to harden so I suggest making these the day before so that you don't run out of time. I had the kids to line up with their teams on one side of the table. Each child got 1 eyeball, 2 dirty worms, and 1 brain. They had 3 minutes to eat everything on their plate to earn 1 point for their team. I should have had a barf bucket handy because 3 of the kids had to run away and throw up. (They tried to stuff their mouths too full!!!!) Next we had the cricket dig. I had a deep, clear plastic container with about 200 live crickets and about 20 extremely sticky eyeballs (ordered from eBay--Gordon Toy Company). The kids had to see how many eyeballs they could pull out and put on a plate in 30 seconds. They got 1 point for each eyeball on the plate. The kids really liked that stunt a few decided to take the place of the kids who didn't want to participate. Next I had a bucket filled with tapeworms spaghetti noodles and an assortment of fake bugs and frogs (Gordon Toy Company). Each kid had 15 seconds to find as many bugs as they could. The last stunt was the pool of rats and creepy crawlies. Each kid had 30 seconds to see how many things they could pull out of the water using only their mouths. I had 10 rubber rats (buycostumes.com) and about 10 new packages of fake fishing bait in a clear plastic container filled with water. They got 5 points for each rat and 1 point each for anything else. The kids had an absolute ball with all of the stunts. I think the parents had just about as much fun as the kids did. I have never been to a party where so many parents were just as involved as the kids. They cheered them on and some even participated. I know that I thoroughly enjoyed myself at this party. The time flew by. Last but certainly not least, we opened presents and then said our good-byes. I only had 1 person who was willing to try my kitty litter cake. It was truly disgusting looking. It was complete with poop and some big fake cockroaches. I got the recipe online by the search engine for kitty litter cake recipe. It tasted wonderful. I tried it while I was making it. However, I couldn't stomach it during the party. I must admit that it was a whole lot of work to put this party together but it was definitely worth it. The kids that attended the party are still talking about how much fun it was and my sister calls it the Party of the Century!!!
