I was turning 15 and had to come up with the BEST birthday party I would ever have.
It had to be something cool, creative, and most importantly- FUN! The idea came to me as I was sitting on the couch, my eyes hooked on the television screen before me. 'Up Next- Fear Factor!' It was perfect! My party would be Fear Factor. Of course, there had to be three rounds. Because I was unsure how many of my guests would actually come, the process of elimination I used had to be simple and effective. Everyone who wanted to compete in the first round could. Their challenge was something some, but not all people, would be embarrassed to do. I call it 'bigger or better'. Before the party we had gone to our neighbors, asking them permission to have their house used in our game. If they said yes, we posted a bright colored sign on their door. Each party member participating in the round is to draw a small, wrapped item from a bag. (We used things like UNUSED lipgloss, nailpolish, hotwheels cars, pens, and stickers.) Then, they took that item door to door at the pre-approved houses and had to try to trade it for something bigger or better. After thirty minutes of trading they were to come back to my house. Only half of the group could move on, so my mom and dad chose the people with the biggest, or the best items to qualify. The second round, otherwise known as 'The Food Round' we played a game called quarters. Each person is given a small cup (we used 4 oz bathroom cups) full of water. We all sat around a round table. My mom mixed up a concoction for us with all sorts of odd ingredients like maple syrup, orange juice, and kool-aid flavoring. Each person had a quarter, and we went once around the table taking turns trying to throw the quarter into the cup with the mixture in the middle. If someone makes it in the cup, everyone has to gulp down their water as fast as they can. The last person to finish they're water has to take one sip of the mixture in the middle. They now can move on to the next round. We continued this until one third of the group had qualified. The final round had to be some sort of stunt. I considered all sorts of things before deciding on what to do for this round. My final decision turned out to be a success. We went to the city pool. We had pre-reserved it for the occasion. We had two stunts the person could choose from. The first one was on the diving board. We strung a clothes line across the pool and secured it to tough poles, doors, etc., so that it was about four feet in front of the diving board. on the line we put five purple flags, attached by a single piece of scotch tape for easy removal. Each person was given five minutes on a timer. They had to jump off the diving board, grab one flag and swim to the edge where they put it in a pile. If they dropped it, it didn't count. They had to repeat the process until five minutes was up. Whoever had the most flags one out of the diving board section. If people tied, we had a contest who could do the coolest trick off the diving board, and the people who didn't qualify voted. The second choice was the waterslide. We taped five flags to the end of the waterslide where they would come out. For this stunt we gave them fifteen minutes, seeing as they had to go up all those stairs. They weren't allowed to grab more than one flag at a time, or only one of them counted. The person who had the most flags over all was declared 'Fearless'. This party was so much fun for everyone. We allowed the guests to free swim during the last events have snacks and play games. We gave everyone 'reminder bands' (those rubber bracelets like the livestrong ones)that we had made to say 'Fearless' and 'The Face of Danger... Defeated'. The actual winner got a shirt and a little prize pack full of random goodies. Everyone got to keep the item they got in 'Bigger or Better'. This party would be great for any age, and can be adjusted to fit certain personalities and age groups. Either way- it was fun!
