I wanted to do something special for my sister's 16th birthday, but I didn't have a lot of money to spend.
So, I threw her a fiesta! I printed the invitations myself which read "Spend an evening South of the Border, we're celebrating Danielle's 16th birthday with a fiesta" It included all the necessary info, and she passed them out herself. We had it in the evening at the pavilion at the city park, and the decorations were purchsed in the cinco de mayo section of a local party store. For food we had nachos, tacos, rice and beans. We had a "Fiesta Walk" kind of like a cake walk but with Mexican themed prizes like margarita glasses with garters and gift certificates for Mexican food. We played "The Mexican Hat Dance" for the music and called the numbers out in Spanish. This was a hit. They wanted to keep on, but I ran out of prizes! I made her wear a somprero as we sang "Feliz Cumpleanos an ti." We had cake and frozen strawberry margaritas (virgin of course!)in disposable margarita glasses with a slice of lime. The teenagers loves those and they were so simple: frozen strawberries, frozen limeade, and ice! And what fiesta would be complete without a pinata? You wouldn't think teenagers would be so into this, but I guess everyone loves candy!!! After that they played volleyball and basketball. My daughter wants to have a fiesta for her birthday next year. She'll be seven, and I think for the younger ones, we can actually do the "Mexican Hat Dance" and the "Macerena" without them thinking it's lame. I can't wait to plan it!
