Fiesta Siesta Party My 7yr old was born in Albuquerque, NM and wanted to do something festive.
She loves hot and spicy foods so we decided on a "Mexican Slumber Party" for her and about 8 of her friends. Our house is already done in Southwestern theme so we just spiced it up with streamers of chilipeppers, cacti, and colored streamers in red, green and white. For the cakes she wanted a cookie cake so we did 1 chocolate chip cookie cake in the shape of, and decorated like maraca's and another sugar cookie cake in the shape of a chili pepper and sprinkled with red and green sugar. For the food we had a taco bar, chips and homemade salsa, green chili con queso, sopapilla's (a New Mexican favorite), Red and Green Koolaid, and choco taco's for ice cream with the cake. Next we all learned how to salsa dance with Latino music, decorated maraca's with vinyl cutouts (my husbands a graphic artist)of chili peppers, confetti shaped specs, cacti, sombreros and letters so each child could put their name on the maraca's, which was part of their goody bags, and made crepe paper flowers. Finally we got to take their chances at the pinata full of candies. All of them were tired by the time we finished and fell fast asleep. In the morning they left with sombreros full of goodies.
