Fiesta (Mexican) Party given for 12 seven-year-olds (mostly girls). Children were greeted at door with a straw Mexican sombrero.
Home was decorated with Mexican colored streamers and balloons. The piņata was used as a table decoration until the time came to break it. Activities included decorating the clay flower pot for miniature "moon" cacti. (Acrylic paint pens worked well.) Large crepe paper flowers were made as a craft by fluffing up layers of crepe paper folded and tied with a green pipe cleaner in the middle. Endless repetitions of the Mexican hat dance. Breaking a festive piņata full of candy and prizes. Eating nachos. "Choco-Tacos" (ice cream sandwiches made with flat cookie cone folded over like a taco) for dessert. This party was well-received and fondly remembered by all.
