i had a 'finding nemo' party theme for my sons 1st bday.i bought all the party supplies(paper plates,glasses,table covers,party hats,decorations were all orange and blue) at the party store and all the toys and candy for the loot bag were ocean themed,ocean animal bath toys,fish shaped candy,finding nemo fruit snacks that had just come out in stores, etc,and for the older kids my mother-in-law bought nemo diaries,pens,erasers,fans,fancy combs,stickers etc from bangkok.printed out nemo gift tags from the internet for the loot bags.(for the loot bags cut out 2 of the same shape of nemo and stick them together and attach strings on top for handle,or take plain gift bags and get kids to decorate with nemo drawings and stickers) we moved all the furniture and decorated the room as though we were under the sea,streamers hanging and covering the ceiling like waves and we had made all the characters of finding nemo out of papier mache at home,with newspaper,drink bottles,pva glue made at home with flour and water,and hung them from the ceiling,bruce the shark after dory and nemos dad in one corner and nemo with his fish tank friends in another.outside near the gate had a sign inviting all teh guests to come and join nemo on his under water adventure. my mother made a fish tank cake,the base was a rectangular cake as the bottom of the fish tank and the corals and fish tank decorations were made with icing and marzipan,and we got fours pieces of very thin inexpensive glass pieces glued together,painted it with all the plants on 3 sides and put it over the cake base and made all the nemo charachters in the tank with playdoh and hung then from the lid of the tank which we made out of cardboard from and old box.the tank looked very realistic because of the glass.had the finding nemo soundtrack playing,one of the games was a fishing game which we made at home,one of the game prizes would have been a live fish in a bowl,wasnt possible at the time, food was all an under the sea theme,sandwiches shaped as fish with an eye and mouth and fins with vegtables,ocean animal cookies etc.used shell and fish plates to serve the food which we already had and fish moulds to make jello or pudding. i bought my son a 'finding nemo' shirt on ebay(really adorable) and got made a skirt for myself with under the ocean with nemo and dory embroidery and had everyone in my family wear something blue or orange. for the thank you card,took pictures of the kids next to the papier mache nemo and friends and stuck it on a home made frame saying thank you.(if you have the party outdoors you could have a bubble machine blowing bubbles or for older kids give them each to blow bubbles all they want,they'll love it)my son wont remember this bday(he did love all the balloons all over the room and looking at teh playdoh fish in the cake tank) but we will all remember the the fun we had preparing for it and the party too.
