Fish Party 4 years
My daughter wanted a finding Nemo Party but I decided to stay with fish as it was much easier! Invitations: I cut out 2 cardboards and 1 paper printed with information(white), in the shape of a seashell. I glued the base so it looked like a book. I decorated to outside with glitter glue and sequins. We had a bunch of diffent coloured streamers coming out the bottom to look like it had just come off a rock. We handed them out 2 weeks before. Party Bags: I made a huge amount of fish with brightly coloured paper, glitter glue, sequins and googly eyes. There were crabs, fish, octopus and starfish. They took 2 weeks to make - as I could only make a few every night. I glued one onto each party bag. I filled the party bag's with sweets (instead of on the tables - so the moms could monitor how much their children ate) I sealed all the party bags in a big box (tv box painted brown) and hid it in the garden. Games: Children were given a treasure map (around the swing, under the jungle gym, etc) which led them to the party bags hidden in the box. Later we played the fishing game, I used all the fish (mentioned above) with paperclips attached and put them in the small plastic swimming pool-empty. Then we made fishing rods with dowel rods, string and magnets. The children had to catch some fish to earn a prize (sweet necklace) but they were all more excited about the fish!! We also had a jumping castle, jungle gym, slide, swings and trampoline. Cake: Two days before the party my daughter asked for a Barbie cake! I was horrified! I had been planning the fish party for months and now she wanted a Barbie cake! I struggled with that idea "Who's party is it? Yours or hers?" So as a compromise I made a mermaid cake! It was a square shaped chocolate cake, iced in brown. I sprinkled brown sugar all over the cake to look like sand. I made the Barbie a green fish tail made of plastic icing. I made a white shell (same shape as invitation) in white plastic icing for her to sit on. I made lots of seaweed to look like long grass, that stood around the mermaid. Then about 12 fish, 2 different kinds, on kebab sticks to "swim" through the seaweed. So the cake was more like a veiw of a mermaid sitting on the sand under the sea, with fish swimming past her. It was pretty and I was glad my daughter asked for Barbie because the other idea would not have been half as nice! We had to buy more chairs as we had invited her whole class from school. We also made a lot of food! Adults had cheese and biscuits, pickles on toothpicks, cupcakes, chips, sandwiches, cakes etc Children had cupcakes decorated with wafers and smaries (m&ms) to look like fish, chips, jelly(made in tiny cups), sandwiches and lots of juice. We had fun!
