For my son's fourth birthday, he wanted a "Finding Nemo" theme. I was able to purchase the invitiations, hats, plates, cups, and table cloth at a local store.
His birthday was in July so we were able to have a pool party. As the guests arrived, they were directed to the pool area that was decorated with paper fish attached with tape to the fence surounding the pool. I had purchased some plastic fish and had the children search for them in the pool. After everone had arrived and had some time in the pool, the children came to the table for food. I had served cheese and bologna sandwiches shaped like fish using a fish cookie cutter, mini pizzas using english muffin halves and fish shaped pepperoni, veggies and dip in pails, and "blue lagoon" slushies which were blue-raspberry kool-aid and ice cubes crushed in the blender. I had decorated the table by placing sea shells and sand in the middle of the table as a centerpiece. For his cake, I made two 8" round cakes and placed one on top of the other and iced the whole thing in an aqua marine coloured icing, I then used a dark green icing and created squiggly lines around the sides of the cake to resemble seaweed, the I placed a "Nemo" figure on top that we had gotten at McDonald's. After all the food was over, the children went outside to open the pinata which was filled with licorice and chocolate bars. When it was close to time to leave, I gave each child a mini treasure map (made out of brown paper bag squares crumpled up to look like an old weathered map) showing them where to find their loot bags. The loot bags were a pail and shovel as the holder and I filled it with stickers, pencils, and erases all in an under the sea theme, some candy and a water splash toy of one of the characters from Finding Nemo the movie. The party lasted aproximately 2.5 hours and due to the hot humid weather, I think the children were appreciative of the swimming. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and my son was ecstatic to have a Nemo party!!!
