For my son's 4th birthday we had a "Firefighter Training Camp". As the children arrived they worked at a craft table putting fire themed stickers on a yellow picture frame made
from cardstock. I had each childs name on the frame with small sticker letters before they arrived. When they finished putting their stickers on, they went to the photo booth where I had
someone take a polaroid picture of them in a fireman dress-up costume.
I had a few adults mount the polaroid photos while the party was going on. I divided up the kids into three groups to complete the training camp part of the party. Each group rotated through the following three stations: 1. Obstacle Course- complete with tunnels, mini trampoline, cones to zig-zag in and out of, stop drop and roll and balance beam to walk across. 2. Put That Fire Out- I mounted large blown up pictures of a window with burning flames all over my garage door and the kids had to take a turn throwing water balloons to put the flames out. We also used the Rescue Hero water gun backpack in the this station. Each child threw 5 water balloons. 3. Pet Rescue- I placed a stuffed cat in one of our trees and the children had to run down, climb a small ladder (with an adult spotting them), get the cat and place it in it's basket. They loved climbing the ladder! After the children completed each station (about 6-7 min. per activity), I did a group activity with a parachute I borrowed from an elementary pe teacher. The children shook the parachute, got under it, etc... They love using a parachute and it's great exercise. As they completed their training they were sent over to a table to receive their fireman hats- thick plastic fireman hats I found at a dollar store. They even had built-in sirens on them. To make it manageable- I put each child's name on the hat with sticker letters ahead of time and by waiting until they completed training we didn't have to deal with hats falling off during the activities. The children had a quick snack- small red sacks labeled "Dalmation Chow" which I filled with a puppy chow snack made with crispix cereal, chocolate, peanut butter and powdered sugar. It turns out white in color and I added raisins for the "spots". About that time the fire truck showed up with lights flashing and sirens blaring. I arranged a party firetruck to come. They did a 60 minute activity and took the kids on rides around the neighborhood, dress up in the gear, carried my son in the rescue basket to the cake and let him cut it using the ax. It was great fun! The party bags were given at the end and filled with fireman badges, red hot candies, stickers and a firetruck vehicle. Each child took home a personalized hat, photo, and party bag.
