We had a wonderful Fireman party for my son's 3rd birthday in May.
He had so much fun that he's still talking about it! We invited everyone for a "Fire hose on a Bun" cookout, complete with chips and yellow/orange fruit salad. The fire department in our county will come out to your house, bring a truck and do a demonstration for the kids, complete with dressing up and a tour of the truck. We saved this as a surprise because we weren't sure if they'd have an emergency and not be able to come, but they came right on time and Jack was thrilled! He just couldn't believe that these fireman were at his house at his birthday party! His aunt had given him an "FDNY" t- shirt which he was wearing that day. Each child got a fire chief hat which I had written their names on with a paint pen, so they toured the truck and talked to the fireman all decked out. After the firemen left, we played a firefighting game. We had drawn a house on a piece of craft foam, and cut slits throughout which we stuffed with yellow and orange tissue paper to look like a fire. We gave each child a squirt gun which they used to "put out the fire" - they had a blast! After that each child had a 5x7 mat frame which they decorated with glitter glue and fire-themed stickers. I took a group picture of them in front of the firetruck which I sent to each child in a thank you note that they could place in the frame. The cake had a firetruck and firemen on it, with roads, cones, etc... They loved it! I also made chocolate candies shaped as fire badges and fire hats - these were served on a plate at the party but I also gave each child one in a favor bag at the end of the party. Other favors included fire whistles, more stickers, a bar of soap with a fire truck on it (which I made with a sticker and several layers of clear nail polish!). It was a wonderful party that my son will remember for a long time. I'm not sure how we'll top it next year!
