For my son's 4th birthday party we had a fireman theme.  I printed the invitations from computer program of body of a fireman took out the face and placed my son's picture on it. I wrote it out as a recruitment flyer for fire cadets. We had a Dalmatian jumper for the kids to be entertained until everyone arrived.  we decorated the house with a 8ft long poster of a brick wall with a fire helmet, etc and the title of Lukas' firehouse.  At the beginning of the party we had "Rick Straight" fireman (new character now in So. Ca) greeting all the kids and taking picture in front of the poster board.  These were later used as thank you cards. We then had lunch-kid menu on a long table fitting all 12 kids with their placemats which I printed with fireman designs and their names for placemats.  Parents were seated right behind their child so they would participate.  After we started the games which included put the helmet on the fireman (all printed from computed program.  The fireman on cardboard paper and helmets from labels), next was water relay.  We had a few 2 year olds this was good for them. All it was, the kid would get water in a small bucket from a large one take it to an empty bucket approximately 6 ft away and dump as much of it in as possible.  Next was using child's phone we had the child with the parent dial 911 and speak the "the fireman" saying "there's a puppy on a tree we need to get", the child would then go up a two step ladder (with parent supervision) and "rescue the puppy".  Last game, I printed a picture of fire coming out of a window and had all the kids throw water balloons to extinguish the fire.  They loved this!  We had "Rick Straight" participate and play in all the games. They kids were thrilled. For there goodie bags we had little fire trucks, squirt extinguishers, rope candy, theme stickers, etc..  The cake was in the shape of a firetruck I made myself from a sheet cake cut into pieces to fit as a firetruck. I used royal icing to make all the gadgets on the firetruck i.e. horn, lights, tires, windows, etc. We gave little fireman (99cent store) to all the kids as their gifts during the time my son opened theirs.  The kids and their parents had a blast since both got to participate in everything.
