My younger son was having his 1st birthday, but we had no idea what type of theme to use, so my older son decided a firetruck party would be best. We planned the party more with my older
son in mind than the birthday boy, I'm sorry to say, but all in all it was a blast.
The invitations were in the shape of a firetruck and gave the pertinent info, what, when, where. To make the invites, I blew up a fire truck Clip Art design, cut out the shape on white card stock and used the reverse side for the information. These were also used for the thank you cards. As each child was arriving, I had set up a coloring table with "fire" themed coloring sheets which were gotten online and compiled into a coloring book. The tables were decorated with red and yellow table cloths that I got from The Dollar Tree. Red and yellow balloons were everywhere. Each child colored while waiting on others to arrive. Once a majority of the children had arrived, the local Fire department arrived with a fire truck. They set up a fire safety demonstration, which included a burning clubhouse, the "stop, drop and roll" demonstration and a little song to help children to remember to "Dial 911". The children were then allowed to "tour" the firetruck and to wear actual fire gear (all of this is done at no cost). My husband took pictures of each child with our boys for the thank you cards. Next, a trackless train in the shape of a fire truck arrived to take the children on a ride around the neighborhood. As they were taking the ride, we brought out the food, hot dogs with 5 alarm chili, "Fire water" (Cherry Kool-Aid with Sprite added) and chips. The cake was in the shape of a fire truck and was mostly for the adults. Each child had a cupcake with red icing and a Dalmatian on top. The children then hit the Dalmatian shaped Pinata for their candy. The goodie bags were actual Fire hats (The Dollar Tree) stuffed with a party bag of a Fire coloring book(Party City), Siren whistle (Party City), Mini Kazoo (Party City), miniature Dalmatian (The Dollar Tree), Fireman's badge (US Toys, Inc), Bubbles (The Dollar Tree), Fireball candy and assorted candies from the Pinata. The parents appreciated the Fire Safety lesson, but the children still talk about the fire hats and the fire truck and train they got to ride on.
