My triplets just turned 3, and they love firetrucks, so we did a firetruck/fireman theme for their birthday. They are 2 boys and 1 girl, and I thought it was a good theme for both sexes. When the guests arrived, they were each given a fireman hat and badge to wear, and I'd already written each child's name on them. My kids' hats each had a big number three on the side. My husband made a huge replica of our own house out of cardboard boxes and duct tape. He then primed it and painted it to match our house. We then took several sheets of tissue paper in red, yellow and 2 shades of orange, ripped them up and bundled them together to make "flames." My husband then cut slits in the cardboard all over the house and stuck the flames in..making it look like the house was on fire. Each child was given a water pistol pre-filled with water, and they were allowed to go put out the flames by squirting the tissue paper. The kids had so much fun that we had to bring a bucket of water outside to refill their water guns over and over and over. I made a firetruck cake and used Oreo's for the wheels, skittles for the controls on the side of the truck, pretzel sticks on top for the ladder, yellow gumdrops on top for the lights and licorice strips on the side to make the hoses. I also made each one of my kids a large cupcake and decorated the top to look like it had flames. I used pretzel sticks again to make "logs" of a fire, and I melted butterscotch and cinnamon candies in a pan in the oven. Once cooled, I broke them up in shards and stuck them on top to resemble flames. The final touch was having the fire dept bring their truck out for the kids to climb on and see. We have a great picture of all the kids on the back of the truck wearing their firemen hats! Each guest was given a goodie bag that had a fire hydrant sprinkler (from the dollar store), a firetruck pad of paper, a hot wheels fire truck, and some firemen stickers. I hope they all had a good time..i know I did!
