Fire Truck Theme
The theme of our son's 3-rd birthday was fire trucks. What child (young and old) doesn't like fire trucks? Cake: Sheet cake with house made from cookie dough. Large candle inside house made it appear as if it was "on fire". Large diecast fire truck with firefighters (Lionel or Ertl) with black licorice hoses. Food: 1-alarm chili, 4-alarm chili, "fire hoses & cheese" (mac & cheese). Each item labeled with folding placard with fire truck clipart. Favors: Plastic fire hats, fire truck theme napkins, tablecloths. Games and events: 1) "Put the fire truck in the firehouse" A variation of "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey". Large cardboard firehouse (painted with 3-d windows, doors). Firehouse truck bays covered with Velcro. Fire truck clipart printed and mounted on cardboard with Velcro on back. Spin child and point them towards the firehouse. 3-truck bays mean that everyone wins. 2) "Firehouse relay" Teams of 2 or more children each. Each team starts with a full bucket of water, running over simple obstacles, passing the bucket to each other. Whoever ends up first with the most water wins. (Everyone gets an "official" medal")..Obviously an outdoor game, but could work indoors with packing noodles. 3) Firetruck pinata 4) The star of the party...a REAL fire truck. Many people don't realize that fire departments will gladly bring a fire truck to your house, either for free, or for a small donation. Many fire departments will use this as an opportunity to do fire safety education. Its a great way to promote fir safety with children and support your local fire department. Note: Its best not to tell your child that a fire truck will be there...after all, they might be busy actually fighting a real fire. Its best to have them arrive at the party, siren and horn blaring...then look at the expression on his face!
