Firefighter Birthday Party
For the party I made a fire engine out of a cut-out refrigerator box. The children played in this while the other guests arrived. The table was covered in a red tablecloth decorated with fireman paper plates and napkins with fire helmets to wear and fire sirens to blow. Big firetrucks were placed in the middle of the table for the centerpiece. Firetruck books were checked out of the library for children to look at and fire trucks were put in a basket for the children to play with also. The first game played was called "Rescue Sparky" and I had a Dalmatian dog hidden behind a tree or plant. The children were given a paper bag with a fire hydrant on it and each fire hydrant was a different color. Their job was to find dog-bones that matched the color of their hydrant and these bones would lead them to the missing puppy. The other game that was played was an obstacle course. The children had to put on their helmet, climb up the ladder, slide down, run to the hose, pick it up and spray a burning house picture, climb up a ladder to save a trapped dog, put the dog in a wagon and wheel it to safety. After they did this they were given a fire engine squirt gun. We took a trip to the fire station where the children wore their helmets there and were given a tour of the firehouse. They also let the children play on the trucks and were given stickers, and pencils and erasers. For desert we had a chocolate cake decorated with fire engines and fire helicopters and they were given fruit roll-up hoses with their cake and ice-cream.
