My son "Fireman CODY" turned 3 this year. Since he does nothing but eat, sleep and dream firetrucks our choice of a theme was easy.
We had a huge party to include a cookout. All the food was "fire" related; 5 Alarm Chili, Hot Dogs, Flame Broiled Chicken, Firehouse Stew etc. We had two cakes: 1) a three dimensional firetruck complete with licorice hoses and pretzel ladders and 2) a Dalmatian with mini fire hat. Games included Pin the Fireman to the firetruck. I went to a teaching supply store and bought a bulletin board set for fire safety month and just laminated before use so I could use in Cody's room afterwards. We took a fire safety quiz with questions that I got off several fire department's web sites. "Put out the Fire" required a relay type race for the kids to run to the "house" on fire, (a poster board drawing that was covered with red balloon "flames") pull off a flame, run back to the start line, put the balloon under a blanket and sit/step/jump on the balloon to smother the flame. I also made flames out of craft foam and attached styrofoam on the backs so they would stand up. Each child took turns shooting down the flames using a Fireman's Backpack "squirt gun" (FISHER PRICE). The object: who could get the most down in 20 seconds. We also made fire themed picture frames. I used 5X7 photo mats (4X6 opening) and attached magnet tape to the back. I searched out every firetruck and fire themed sticker known to man and placed them along with alphabet stickers, crayons and markers all over the "craft" table. Each child made an original to take home. They looked great and even the little ones could do it. Everyone got a fire hat and a firetruck goodie box with a toy truck, siren whistle, flashing red safety light, coloring book and crayons, and more stickers. I also contacted the Fire Department and although they couldn't allow a visit they did send Sparky the Fire Dog to come and briefly visit with the kids. Last but not least was the firetruck piņata. Its the best party I have thrown or ever attending and have no idea how to top it next year!
