Fishing Party 2yr

For my sons 2nd birthday we had a fishing party. I made invitations that looked like fishing poles. I cut out three small fish from colored paper and glued them each on a piece of yarn.  Then I pushed all three pieces of yarn through a straw.  I tied them in a knot and glued the straw and knot together.  On the back of the fish was the party information.  As each of the children arrived they received a plastic fishing pole and bucket (to hold all the fish they caught). The first game we played was a bean bag toss.  I cut a fish shape out of a piece of wood (about two feet high by three feet long).  Next I cut out 2 holes (one towards top and one towards the fin) then I painted the fish blue and used silver for the eye and the scales.  Next we went "fishing" in our homemade pond.  For the pond I used a square pice of cardboard and covered it in blue colored paper. Towards the sides I used lighter blue and some green so it looked like the edge of the pond.  I went and cut a few cattails and pushed them through the sides of the cardboard so they would stand up. I used books at the corners of the cardboard to keep it off the ground.  I cut a big piece of cardbaord into the shape of a trunk and taped it on the wall.  I used a green plastic table cloth and cut it so it looked like the top of a tree, then I put this over my trunk.  Then I put my pond right next to my tree. It was a pond scene.  I cut slits in the middle of the pond so I could put my fish.  For my fish I used construction paper.  I cut two fish shapes onto each piece of paper(front and back of fish). After I cut these out I glued the two pieces together at the edges, making sure to leave the fishes mouth open enough for the hook.  For the hook I used a pipe cleaner. I bent it in half, glued them to the inside of the fishes mouth. Then I bought the silly eyes and glued them onto the front and back of the fish.  I filled each of the fish up with candy. I used a marker to draw the fish sclaes.  I put the fish into the slits in the pond and the kids to go "fishing". They loved it. For food we had blue jello in a fish bowl with gummi fish, dirt pudding, and gummi worms.   For the cake I made two 9" round cakes. I cut a crescent shpe form both cakes. The shapes I cut off I used for the tail fin and the fin on the back. I stood the 2 large pieces onto a board (theside where the crescents were cut helped so it wouldn't roll). I used frosting to stick them together.  Then I put the fins on and I frosted the entire cake white. I used Necco Wafers for the scales.  It was very cute. Every time I see the kids that came to the party they ask me if they can come fishing at our house.
