For my daughter's second birthday, I wanted to do something special since her first birthday was just given at a pizza place, so I gave her a fishing party at a local park. I scrapbook a lot, so I sent out invitations that were scrapbooked with a paper doll fisherman and lake scene and it said, "Let's Go Fishing!"  I found all sorts of fish themed plateware and prizes off of Oriental Trading.  A friend of mine made a yellow goldfish cake while I made dirty gummy worm ice cream cups, which is made with vanilla ice cream, crushed Oreos and gummy worms coming out of the top of the cup. I hung up a fish themed beach towel over the volleyball net, then each kid took a fishing pole and cast over the towel for make-shift fishing. I then put a fish themed prize (fish jeweled bracelets, paddleballs shaped like fish, fish slinkies, etc.) on the clothespin that was on the end of the line, and each kid reeled in a couple of prizes.   I bought two kites with fish drawn on them, and while some of the kids flew kites, we bought real live crickets and did some real fishing at the park's pond. Each child then took a turn at busting open the fish pinata that was filled with all kinds of toys and candy.  I gave each one of them a goodie bag with fish on them and it was filled with goldfish crackers, gummy worms and all of the candy and prizes they gathered from the pinata.  Not only did each child get a goodie bag filled with candy and prizes, but each child got to decorate their own fish bowl (89 cents at Wal-Mart) with rocks and folliage...then for the grand finale, they each got to fish for their own special goldfish with a handheld net.  I do know that every single fish died within two to three days and there were a lot of broken-hearted kids, so check with your pet store about the best fish to use for something like this. I heard Betas live through anything...they are, of course, $2.50 each, while the goldfish were more like .19 cents each.  I had a friend take pictures for me since I didn't have enough time.  She got a picture of each child holding their fish...I then sent a thank you note that resembled the invitation with each child's picture on it.  So, the mother's got a treat from this party, also.  This party was a lot of work, but it was well worth it.  Make sure you have a husband, mother or friend helping you out because there were so many various activities going on, I was completely worn out.
