My son chose a fishing theme for his 7th birthday party since he loves to fish. I used the Wilton fish pan for the cake and made chocolate fish lollipops, besides offering goldfish
crackers and gummy worms in Oreo crumbs. We decorated with tropical fish decorations.
It was a very hot day which was perfect since we had a pool party. In past years, I've tended to plan too many activities away from the pool, which is where the kids REALLY wanted to be. So this year, I was determined to keep the games related to the water. We started with knocking over four tin cans with a squirt gun, which the kids played in the shallow end of the pool. The prizes for this game were fish shaped beach balls. The next game we played was a Splash Ball Toss which they also played in the pool. My kids and I took a big piece of plywood and painted a tropical fish scene then my husband cut out three different sized holes with different point values. The kids then tried to throw splash balls through the holes and got to keep one for their prize. The next game was a casting game where the kids stood outside our pool fence and cast a fishing pole (with a fake hook) into the "stocked" pool to catch a prize. (That one I think I read on this site!) The last game my son insisted on -- Pin the Lure on the Fish. We drew a fish on poster paper then I printed some lures and worms from my Print Shop program on sticker paper and the kids tried to get them in the fish's mouth. The prizes for this were fish necklaces. I've had lots of parties for my three kids and I think this was the best one so far. When I asked my son what his favorite part was, he said "everything"!
