For my son, Brennan's 9th birthday, we planned a special fishing tournament party for him at his grandparents pond. Each child brought their own fishing pole and for one hour fished their
little hearts out. My husband supplied the same bait to each child to make it fair. I had four bass trophies made (Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish, First Fish and Most Fish) for the
winners, and Special Award ribbons for every child who came.
After the "tournament" was officially over, we conducted an awards ceremony, and presented the trophies and ribbons. This was a big hit with all of the children. Some of the snacks we had included gummy worms, Swedish fish, goldfish snacks, and fish shaped cookies. The cake had a picture of a bass (edible art) which we got from Wal-Mart. After we cut the cake and opened presents, the kids were able to fish some more. Even some of the adult enjoyed fishing with their child. My son told us later that this was the best party he ever had, and he wanted another fishing party for his 10th birthday.
