My son decided he wanted a fishing party for his 3rd birthday. The invitations were hand made. The invitation had a GONE FISHING sign at the top, and at the bottom it read "Aidan is
REELING in a party, and it's sure to be a WHOPPER! He's FISHING for friends to help him celebrate his 3rd birthday. Between the two signs there was a fish on it with a blue background to look
like water. A twig with jute for the string and a hook made out of wire was above the fish. The hook hung right in the mouth of the fish. When you moved the fish there was a bobber underneath
it that read HOOK up April 1, 2006 at 2pm, DOCKSIDE at Aidan's fishing hole (our address), Drop us a LINE at 555-5555, Come REEL in the fun! I placed a magnet on the back so they could be
easily placed on the fridge. We used the garage for the party and hung plastic table clothes to block off the shelves, etc and also to use as a backdrop. I had painted on cardboard various
sayings: "Fish ON!; Early to bed, Early to rise, Fish all day, make up lies; Fishing, a jerk on one end waiting for a jerk on the other; For the rich there is therapy, for the rest of
us. . . FISHING!" We used green plastic table clothes and put real bobbers and spinners around the tables. We hung a few nets and fishing poles for decorations as well. We also added
streamers and balloons. Green plates and napkins were used. I made the pinata out of wrapping paper and it was shaped like a fish. I attached string to the piñata and each string to a twig.
On three we asked the kids to reel in the fish and they then gathered their goodies from the piñata in their tackle boxes that I made out of egg cartons. I just spray painted them, wrote
Aidan's Tackle, Haley's Tackle, etc. and attached pipe cleaners for a handle. The activities included coloring a paper hat with fish all over it, coloring the fish cut outs, we had crayons
placed in little tackle boxes. Then we had a kiddie pool with various paper fish that had a paper clip on the mouth and a piece of candy taped to the back. Each child went fishing with the
magnetic fishing pole. For food we had a fish cake that I made, the recipe is from familyfun.com; blue Jell-O cups with Swedish fish in it and chocolate pudding cups with gummy worms.
The punch was invisible Kool-Aid that I died blue (so it was like seawater) with Kool-Aid ice cubes that had fish in them and I also made an ice ring with gummy worms in it. There were also
goldfish out to snack on. The kids had a great time fishing and there was still fish left over in the kiddie pool. For thank you cards we printed out the "a fishing we did go"
poem that I found on this website.
