I gave my son a "Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast" party for his 2nd birthday last year. INVITATION: The invitation was a picture of Sam holding a tray of green eggs and ham.
I put the picture a green cut out and then pasted on orange paper.
I used green ink with a 'Dr. Seuss-like' font. The invite read, "I do like green eggs and ham! I do like them Sam-I-am! I would eat them at the zoo, I would eat them wearing blue, I would eat them 'cause I knew It's ______ Birthday - He's turning 2!" Inside read, "You're invited to a "Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast" celebrating _________ 2nd Birthday." DECORATIONS: The party was in our backyard. On the backyard gate guest passed a large fork with an over easy green egg on top with a "Welcome!" sign next to it. I made them out of cardboard and used foil to cover the fork - construction paper to make the egg and sign. The tables were decorated in solid yellow tablecloths. The centerpieces were different 8x11 pictures from the book that I found from the Internet. I glued them onto cardboard squares and had streamers pouring out of the top and bottom of the picture. Colors used were orange, green and yellow. We also had balloons hung all over the yard in the same colors. I purchased a green pinata and pasted a picture of Sam-I-Am on the Hulk picture that was originally there. We hung this from the tree in the center of the yard. A relative made a 4x4 foot picture painted on wood of Sam-I-Am holding a large tray. The background of the painting was a scene from the book with the house and fox from the story. The board was nailed onto 1x2s and was the centerpiece/game for the yard. GAMES: Instead of giving gift bags I had three stations for the children to play games and win prizes. One game was the Sam-I-Am board mentioned above. We glued Velcro onto the platter that Sam was holding and the kids had to toss green Easter eggs (covered in Velcro) to the platter. The second game was a ring toss and the sticks the children had to throw the rings over had the Green Eggs and Ham puppets on top of each (a gift from a relative). The third game was a "Green Egg Toss". Except we used green water balloons. The parents were partners with their children. The prizes were bubbles, color books w/crayons and green Easter eggs filled with homemade green play dough. FOOD: Served green scrambled eggs, baked ham, muffins, fruit and offered a waffle bar. The guest topped them with maple syrup, strawberries, bananas, chocolate syrup and/or whip cream. The centerpiece for the buffet table was a Green Eggs and Ham toy train set. My son received as a gift. We ended the party with the Sam-I-Am pinata filled with goodies. Everyone had a great time and having the party early in the day was perfect for everyone. Hope you enjoy the ideas.
