My LAKE CAKE, would go great with the fishing theme. It's made by hollowing out a large round portion, of a cooled, large, square, white cake. Keep a portion of the cake intact,
ice and cover with dried shaved coconut, shaken with green food coloring, for the grass around the lake. Fill the hollowed out area full of set, broken up, blue Jell-O, for the lake. Make a
dock out of cut black licorice. I decorated the Jell-O part, with chewy fish candies coming halfway out of the water, small toy boats, and chewy candy rings with little toy trolls in them, as
if lounging in innertubes. I put a few small toy cars on the grassy part, with the little trolls lying on fruit leather, as if sunbathing on their towels. I added some mint jelly candies,
shaped like pine trees, around the edge of the lake. Vola, a sunny day at the lake! Full of fish and trolls frolicking in the water and on the beach. I actually came up with this
cake completely by error. The cake I had made, stuck to the pan and had ripped a big portion of the cake away, so rather than try and glue it together with icing. I made a silk purse out of a
sow's ear (so to speak) and decided to turn it into a lake. It ended up being almost, too pretty to eat, and the kids thought it was totally cool! All the candy and Jell-O used to decorate,
was a big hit too, because it was something other than just cake.
