Game Show Party The idea is basically that the guests play their own versions of game shows that were or are popular. This party takes a bit of "before" planning and setting
up. Invitation: A great idea for an invitation would be the wheel of fortune board with "you're invited" or "happy birthday" spelled out on the front. Games:
1) Wheel of fortune: buy a big dry erase board or build your own
board. have one person be "vanna white" and one person be "pat", and then switch those people every so often so everyone gets to play. then have a "wheel". you can decide where the person lands on the wheel any way you want. have "vanna" walk around the board and fill in the board when a person guesses a correct letter. if this is a childrens party, you might want to have an adult be the one to keep score. you'll need categories and puzzles already made. the person with the most "money" at the end wins. you might want to have an extra round for the winner. 2) Newlyweds Game: have all the guests pair up, then give them about 5 minutes to quiz each other on basic info about them. then, have one person from each group leave while you ask the other person basic info about the person who's gone. keep the questions and scenarios easy, like birthdays and favorite colors, etc. the team with the most points at the end wins. have ?'s already made. 3) Jeopardy: have categories, rounds, and puzzles ready. have one person be "alex" and one person be the scorekeeper (same adult). again, switch "alex" often so everyone gets to play. set up "who is/are" and "what is/are" questions for the guests to answer. make them fun, not too hard, and definitely not about boring subjects. person with the most "money" at the end wins. 4) Match Game: this is really fun. pick two guests to be "contestants" then pick six "celebrities". switch people after every few rounds or play separate games so everyone gets a chance. ask one contestant and all the celebrities a fill-in-the- blank question. give them a minute or two to think of an answer. have the contestant say their answer, then have the celebrities reveal their answers. if any answers match the contestant's answer, give the contestant one point. after all the celebrities reveal their answers, do the same thing, only with a different question and the other contestant. first contestant to 5 or 10 points wins. have questions already made. 5) Weakest Link: just like the game show. pick the most clever and cynical guest and let them be the host. have the guests be on the team as contestants. ask questions for 2 or 3 minutes. have an adult keep track of who gets the most right and the most wrong, then have the players vote off whop they think is the "weakest". whoever gets the most votes leaves, and so on. total "money" from each round adds together to be the "prize" for the winner. in the final round, ask players more challenging questions and give them as much time as they need. first person to five correct wins. have questions already made. 6) Who wants to be a milionaire?: have every guest put a sequence of something in its correct order. first person to get it right goes to the "hot seat". you might want to have more than one game going to give evryone a chance. also, you might want to go $100, $500, $1000, $5000, $10,000, $50,000, $100,000, $500,000, $1,000,000 just to save time. ask easy questions and have lifelines. have questions already ready. 7) Cram: give guests 5-10 minutes to cram as much info about a few given topics before you question them on the subjects. you might want to put guests in groups to help. give each person or group a list of things to know about. groups should find out everything they can about the subjects. list should only 5-10 subjects, only 1 or 2 subjects per person in the group. then ask them questions about the topics, everything from very general to very specific. the team with the most questions correct at the end wins. should have questions already ready. 8) Pictionary: this is a classic. use the board from wheel of fortune for this one. put guests in 2 groups. have categories and phrases ready for the groups to draw. one person from first group goes up and draws phrase given to them. host cannot show either group. the only thing to help the others in the group is the category name and the picture. give them 2 minutes to guess. if the first group doesnt get it, the same phrase moves on to the second group who have less time to guess it, like 1 minute. game continues until a group gets at least 5 pictures right. have categories and phrases already ready, and make them fairly easy. Food: make or buy a circle cake, then fill it in with multicolored frosting to look like the wheel on Wheel of Fortune. You might even want to write amounts of money and add glitter to some. Have fun and be creative! If you have Game Show network, you might want to watch to get more ideas. Good Luck! ~Hartlyn
