For my son's 10th birthday party we decided on a Game Show theme. We decided to play Deal or No Deal, Wheel of Fortune, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire for the games. Invitations: I took a
picture of my son holding money and money spread out in front of him on the table. I then used the picture to make the front of the invitation to look like a TV Guide. The date of the party
was the TV Guide date. The inside of the invitation told the contestants (the guests) what time to arrive at the green room, the times that all of the shows were to air, and an invite for the
contestants to stay for a VIP After Party. The contestants were asked to RSVP if they were interested in playing. Food: We served hot dogs and a Deal or No Deal Cake. I made a cake, covered
it with gray icing, wrote a 10 (my son's age) in the middle, and added a black handle from an old toolbox to finish the effect. (very simple) Games: For Deal or No Deal we collected shoe
boxes from family and neighbor's weeks before the party, painted them gray, and numbered them. We then made point values from 1-10,000 and stuck them in random boxes using double sided tape.
After one guest played the game, we would secretly switch a few of the numbers in the boxes and the next guest would play. We kept track of everyone's score on a piece of poster board. For
Wheel of
Fortune, we made a small wheel using points instead of money, and let three guests play at a time. These scores were added to the other scores. For Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, we used a laptop and the kid's version of the computer game. The kids all took turns playing. These points were added to the total score. The person with the highest score won a $20 gift card to a local video game store. Second place won $15, third place $10, and everyone else got a consolation prize of a $5 gift card. We used the after party for gift opening.
