Invitations were homemade folding cards drawn to look like a Gameboy. The screen has computer script reading, Are you up to the Challenge?" Inside had the details of date time and address. Decorations were red and blue balloons and streamers. Our food table had labels that read: Donkey Kong bananas Mario's Spicy Meatballs Power Ranger Punch Sonic Rings (pretzels) and we had individual Ninja Turtle Pizzas. We had all the kids play Game Charades. They had to draw a name of a video game from a bowl and act out Frogger Street Fighter or Spiro etc...    The highlight of the party though was having the beat their very own video game level in our backyard. Each child had to first jump on top of bad guys (small cardboard boxes) to kill them. They then had to get through the rolling fireballs (adults rolled plastic balls at them). They then had to navigate through the giant water maze. I had put stakes into the ground and ran streamers from the stakes creating a maze. This was about 40 feet wide and 20 feet long. It took a while to create but it was such a hit with the kids. Waiting at the end of the maze was the final bad guy( my husband). Each kid had to use balloons to hit the bad guy on the head 3 times to defeat him while avoiding the bad guys clutches. Each kid got to do the level once by themselves then together as a group. The funniest part for the grownups was that even though the kids had gone thru the maze once before they still got lost in every dead end.   The cake was a homemade rectangle with white frosting that I piped colored icing to create the screen arrow controls and buttond. The guests had all brought video games as presents which really put a great video game end to the party!"
