Actually I have two party ideas that were a huge hit here for my daughters birthday: This one you have to be careful that the parents of the children do not object to Ouji boards.
What we did is took our den and lit it up totally up with glow sticks to give off an eerie glow and let the children play with a Ouji board. What the kids didn't know is that we had also arranged for a little fun by having a friend call up on the phone in the den and ask for one of the party guests by name and then they went on a big speal with different things they knew about the kids at the party because their Ouji board was telling them the information. (Of course we had supplied the friend with various information ahead of time...even up to the last minute filling them in on what the guests were wearing)The kids couldn't believe this was happening and to top it off a different neighbor dressed up in a scary costume and knocked on the den window scaring the kids to death!!! Mind you that you need to be careful not to let the people that help you out be to scary, just enough to give the kids some excitement. It also is not a good idea for little kids but goes over great with the pre-teen crowd that are getting to the stage where they think their cool and it's great for a combination boy/girl pre-teen party since it's not boyish or girlish. The second idea is only for those of you who are able to get to Disney World in Orlando Florida. For $175.00 - $200.00 they will take 12 people out on a decorated birthday boat to either watch the fireworks at Disney World or Epcot. The boat starts out having you stop right in front of the Electric Water Parade...you can't get closer than that...then out by the park of your choice (we chose Disney World but I heard the Epcot one is better which is hard to believe since we really enjoyed ours) to watch the fireworks from the boat. After the fireworks you have cake and soda (included in the price) and then the driver takes you on a water tour of some of the scenery/hotels on the grounds. It's fantastic and well worth the money, everyone that went enjoyed it. I've lived in FL all my life and never even knew this existed until last year when I came across it online and I'm so glad I did because I found it just in time for my daughters 18th birthday, but any age would find this enjoyable...our guests ranged from age 5 - 72 and there wasn't a single complaint. Just a little tip, when you are given the choice of where to catch the boat choose the route from the Wilderness Lodge (not the campground the lodge and stress to your guests that your saying lodge not campground...several of our guests went to the campground first) as my understanding is you get to see more that way.
