Party Supplies

My daughter's fifth birthday party will be a flower party. We invited 12 girlfriends from her Montessori class plus 5 cousins.  I purchased flower partyware from Pottery Barn Kids.  My inspiration began there. I got a large wood flower that I painted pink and will put it in a large clay pot so that our guests know which door to enter.  When the guests arrive, I will paint their faces. They will choose from a variety of garden shapes such as butterflies, bees and flowers of course.  For our two boy-guests (cousins), I included the choices of snakes, balloons and presents.  As soon as all the guests arrive and are "painted", we will play "find the flower"...the party is the day before Easter so I thought a hunt was necessary but an egg hunt wouldn't do...so I sewed small flower "pillows" out of pink felt...the hot pink center is sewn with an opening so that it is a pocket. Inside the pocket will be the prize, felt finger puppets that I found at a craft show.  The girls are girl puppets and I got animals for the boys.  To make sure they take home the flower they found, I made small sheet of paper in which I'll write their name to tuck into the pocket. On the sheet of paper, I printed in pink ink, "Save this flower from our game...it will make a great tooth fairy pillow." After "find the flower", we will sit at the table. My husband got an oversized piece of wood for two bucks and he made a very large tabletop (like a slipcover with 2 inch lip around the side so it won't slip) and we will put it over two children's tables. We made it to fit the two identical children's tables that my daughter and neice had.  You could also make simple legs or sawhorses.  My mother had a pink gingham tablecloth that I recycled....a small hole prompted me to make felt flowers (used the scraps from the flower pillows) and sewed them all over the tablecloth.  It looks adorable...thank goodness for that hole! Each child will be given an apron that I sewed...again, a bargain shopper I got a large floral fabric that matched our tableware perfectly for a buck a yard.  Binding tape was sewed around the apron to finish it off and make the strings to tie and for around the neck.  I used a button maker to make name buttons for their aprons...this was something I had access to, but you could use stickers too.  With their aprons on, they will do a craft. I prepainted clay pots, pink with white polka dots....for a party of older kids you could have them paint them themselves but our guests range 3 to 5 and the party is in my dining room so I decided to paint them! They will make a flower out of fun-foam to put in their pot. After the craft, if it's getting late we may eat...pizza is a simple old favorite... first...if not, we'll play flower bingo. I found a large flower clip art on the computer. It had five petals...in each of the petals, I put one clip art with birthday/garden themes, e.g. ladybug, partyhat, flower. They have to fill their flower to win.  I thought five simple petals is simpler for young kids than a regular bingo board. They'll use pastel m&m's for bingo chips....they can eat them to clear their board!  I got rings and bracelets for the prizes so they can just put them on and we won't have prizes all over the place.  I have enough to give each girl even if they don't win. We'll finish with cake which is really cupcakes frosted with pink...much easier than cutting cake.  I also made cut-out cookies in a daisy flower shape. The favor will go home in a gift bag that coordinates with the tableware...the favor is a small rag doll that has pink hair and a pink daisy flower on her dress...found at walmart for 2.50!
