For our daughters 3rd Birthday we had a Garden Party. We made the invitations on our computer complete with a poem and garden related clip art. We decorated the house with real flowers, silk flowers, tissue paper bouquets, nests, birds and bird houses.  On arrival, each child received a small metal bucket of their own to decorate with paints, stampers, markers and stickers. A few days ahead we poured Plaster of Paris into garden motif molds and then drilled tiny holes at the top of them to insert fishing line for easy hanging. At the party each child painted one of the plaster pieces and then we hung them on a pipe cleaner covered mobile made from two hangers. This was a "gift" to the Birthday girl from all of her friends..to hang in her room for a keepsake. Outside we had the children play on our playset and a few at a time made bird feeders from bagels, peanut butter, and wild bird feed. We tied a string around them and bagged them up for the children to take home. They also played Buzzy Bee Beanbag Toss (an idea I got from this web site). A board that I painted three flowers on and then cut out the holes in the center of the "rose", the "tulip", and "blue aster". The Bees were made out of yellow socks with black stripes marked on them tied off with black pipe cleaners and filled with rice. Another game I got from this site was Butterfly Bowling. Water bottles filled with colored water and tissue paper wings and eyes on the caps complete with pipe cleaner antennas. In the sand box we used our plastic rakes and shovels to dig for prizes. This was a big hit. We hid plastic worms, bugs, and even coins. For lunch we had sandwiches cut out with large flower cookie cutters, veggie stick snacks (sort of like a healthy french fry) and grapes served in a bowl made to look like a blue jays nest. Of course, on the cake there was a little girl standing in a field of flowers. After each child finished their lunch they were taken to the porch to paint their hand and "print" it on a white table I had made for our daughter. Now everyone who was here will be remembered.  As the children departed they retrieved their goodie bags from the wheelbarrow out front. We wheeled that around to the front yard after all of the guests were inside. In the goodie bags we included a pack of seeds, sidewalk chalk, sunglasses, a bug magnet, etc. It was a great day!
