When my daughter turned 3, I had a garden party for her in March. It was really easy to find things because Easter was right around the corner and so is summer. So pastel, bunnies
and garden supplies were well in demand. I first sent out her invitation with a photo on front of a blank white card and I put Scrapbooking stickers of a picket fence in front of it, so she
looked like she was standing in a garden. I simply invited people with that and enclosed a little poem. I decorated my home very summer like with pastel checkered table cloths and
bouquets of flowers.
For the food I served fried chicken (catered in) and displayed it in a long flower box. (New and plastic). I also purchased large plastic terra cotta colored flower pots and served potato salad, taco salad and macaroni salad out of them and had gardening tools as the spoons for the salad. I used those bugs on a stake (where the wind makes their wings fly) and staked them in the salad so that it looked like there were butterflies and dragonflies flying around the food. Everything was new and clean. Great to use later for the summer! Then, the week prior, I had spent some time drawing outlines of butterflies, birds and bees out of construction paper. I colored them in with markers and then I laminated them and punched a hole in the top. I then used invisible thread to string them from the ceiling. We also made clouds and a sun. It gave the whole room a very summer-like feeling. We had a bumble-bee pinata and for party favor bags, (I am a wood-cutter)so I made everyone a wooden garden box. I decorated each one of them different (to the color schemes of their bedroom) and put their name on it. That is what they used to fill their pinata fillings with. The kids loved those boxes and they were and still are very useful in their rooms to hold several knick knacks. They are very easy to make, if you have some of the right tools. I made 2 very large sheet cakes and layered them with icing in the middle. I then cut out a flowerpot with flowers and decorated it. It looked like a big terracotta pot with assorted flowers. Very large and very easy. It was a party that adults as well as children enjoyed. Especially because it gave everyone a feel that summer was near!
